Realistic education goals, along with the tools and support needed, offer members an incredible opportunity to succeed. To help members feel comfortable attending classes at local colleges, adult education programs and career training centers, Gateway offers Supported Education.
Rather than providing in-house classes, we encourage members to enroll in existing educational programs in the community, and we support their efforts by helping them secure transportation, obtain financial aid, access counseling services, and meet all admission and attendance requirements. In addition, each participant is paired with a Gateway clubhouse or staff member who serves as a mentor, helping them fill out applications, choose a curriculum, and set realistic career goals.
Gateway works with the Greenville County School System to offer the Homebound program for Gateway members who wish to obtain their high school diploma. The school system provides an instructor who facilitates homework and testing for the Gateway member, while Gateway provides a supportive learning environment outside of the traditional high school setting that is tailored to the member’s individual learning style and needs.
