My name is Erin but my friends call me Tree. I am 39 years old, and a proud member of Gateway house. My life before Gateway is what I call my dark days. I was living in my own apartment and it was more like a tomb to me. Where I could hide from the world as it passed me by. My blinds were closed 24/7. There I sat alone and isolated. My TV and couch were my best friends and only comfort. Then my psychiatrist told me about Gateway and gave me a referral. I got a tour and decided to give it try. It was the best decision I ever made.
Now that I am a member of Gateway my life has greatly improved. Being a member of Gateway has given me a social life, friends, employment opportunities, and I am going back to school to get my degree in animal science. Most of all I have a place to go where I am accepted and have purpose. Gateway utilizes my skills. I’m never afraid to say I don’t know how to something or to ask a question, because the staff or members are always there to show me or answer my questions and if they can’t show me or answer my question they will help find someone who can. I feel at Gateway I’m the best me I can be. The staff is wonderful, kind, and patient. I can tell they really want good things for the members. Thank you Gateway for helping me put my life back together in a healthy way.
